The aluminum EVRYjourney is a considerably better bike than the steel one.
Aluminum is usually considered better and lighter than steel, but this only accounts for some of the price difference.
First, the aluminum EVRYjourney only weighs 35 lbs., while the steel EVRYjourney weighs three pounds more at 38 lbs.
There are other important upgrades for the aluminum EVRYjourney. If you take a look at the two bikes on the site, you can see that the aluminum has wheels with a wider profile, which is due to the double-wall rims. Wheels with double-wall rims are better in quality and much stronger.
The front wheel on the aluminum is a quick release versus bolt-on for the steel, also considered an upgrade due to ease of wheel removal for locking and transportation.
The aluminum EVRYjourney has an upgraded bottom bracket and cranks compared to the steel version.
The rear derailleur and the brakes are also upgraded on the aluminum.
