Riding an e-bike is simple. You'll get the hang of it after a few minutes of riding. Here's an overview of electric bike operation.
The e-bike has two modes of operation. You can choose between either pedal assist or using the throttle. You can also use these two modes in together at the same time.
Operating the throttle is pretty basic. Just push down on the thumb trigger and away you go. You can modulate your speed by changing how far you move the throttle. When you release the throttle, power stops.
The other mode, called pedal assist, is also easy to understand. This feature allows you to choose different levels of automatic assistance from the motor. When you start pedaling, the motor will sense your cadence (rate of pedaling) and will assist you according to your changing needs. If you are pedaling swiftly, it will help less. If you start to bog down or pedal more slowly, the motor will kick in automatically to help you out.
Here's how to use pedal assist. Turn on the the handlebar display. Then use the "plus" button to choose one of five speeds. Then begin pedaling. The motor will automatically kick in to help out. That's it!
The five speeds correspond to increasing levels of assistance. Level 1 uses 20% of the battery's power to assist when needed. Level 2 gives you 40% of the battery's power. This continues up to level 5, which means that the battery will give you up to 100% of its potential power to help you out.
The best way to understand this is to just try it out. It will become very clear after a minute or two of riding.
You can use the throttle at any time, whether in pedal assist mode or not.
